BEN ALBERTS NATURE RESERVE

This 2 000ha reserve is situated in the Crocodile River Valley, where typical bushveld vegetation and hilly terrain create the perfect habitat for an abundance of plant and animal species. Owned by the mining giant ISCOR, the reserve lies near the company's iron-ore mine at Thabazimbi. It is a popular destination for ISCOR's employees and is also open to the general public.

Game-viewing roads enable visitors to access all parts of the reserve and spot wildlife such as white rhino, waterbuck, warthog, eland, kudu and giraffe. A few of these roads lead to viewpoints with excellent scenery. Birdlife in the reserve is abundant. After a rewarding game drive, visitors can relax at a picnic site.

Just outside the gates visitors will find a rest camp with caravan and camping facilities. The reserve is open throughout the year. Opening time: Winter - 08h00 to 18h00; summer - 07h00 to 19h00.

How to get there:
From Thabazimbi follow the R510 southward for 5km before taking the clearly signposted right turn to the reserve.
